Launch Week 2014!

Welcome back CHAMPION Red Bull Racers

Red Bull Racers won 9 races on the way to their dual championships in 2013. The team is not resting on its past, though. "With all the new regulations there has been a radical shift in philosophy for the racers. After the success last year you would think that they would stick with the tried and tested but no, the ruthlessness of F1 will not allow that. The team hopes for a great start to the season, but who can tell as early testing is not always a good indication." The team has abandoned its namesake for the popular Merc/Merc combo.

OOOPS! Jordan Gran Prix is here too!

My apologies, teams -- I forgot to place JGP here during launch week, but I do have a valid lineup for the team. Here it is:

  • Lewis Hamilton
  • Nico Rosberg
  • Sebastian Vettel
  • Valtteri Bottas
  • Max Chilton
  • Chassis: Mercedes AMG
  • Engine: Mercedes AMG
  • Sponsorship Level: Half Season

Welcome back Lena Tecnologia

"After a 3rd last year, 10th in 2012, and 2nd in 2011 Lena Tecnologia is looking to get on the top podium step! Being the 1st or 2nd loser is no longer acceptable at Lena Tecnologia. After several years of a similar strategy our team is going in a completely different direction this year that will hopefully break the loser status."

  • Lewis Hamilton
  • Sebastian Vettel
  • Nico Rosberg
  • Valtteri Bottas
  • Marcus Ericsson
  • Engine: Mercedes AMG
  • Chassis: Mercedes AMG
  • Sponsorship Level: Half Season

Welcome back Clingfilm Rockets

The Clingfilm Rockets were on the podium 6 times in 2013 and finished 4th, which for most teams would be a very respectable finish. The Team Principal felt differently: "Being beaten, quite severely, by the junior team, has laid heavy with the senior team. However, it has allowed early development of this year's car and the 2014 car is quite a radical change from the junior team's car (which did look better in testing). However, the Rockets are in it for the long haul, not early glory."

  • Kimi Raikkonen
  • Nico Rosberg
  • Max Chilton
  • Valtteri Bottas
  • Engine: Mercedes AMG
  • Chassis: Ferrari
  • Sponsorship Level: Half Season

Welcome back Shaky GP

“We’re still in shock over last season’s single podium finish and only managing to match our 5th place results achieved in 2012. On paper our team looked great but in reality we never meshed. The sponsors are looking for a bit more air time and have made their intentions clear.”

  • Lewis Hamilton
  • Nico Rosberg
  • Sergio Perez
  • Felipe Massa
  • Adrian Sutil
  • Chassis: McLaren
  • Engine: Mercedes R&D
  • Sponsorship Level: Half Season

Welcome back This Year We Win!

This team competed last year as Forza Suid Afrika, but decided on a lower-key approach this season. The team-principal Mr. Winning has announced the goal for the 2014 season. The short version is: "Everything but victory is a disappointment." While a re-branding is enmployed to underline the hunger for victory the team continues to trust in the German power in the back of the cars.

  • Lewis Hamilton
  • Nico Rosberg
  • Sebastian Vettel
  • Jules Bianchi
  • Marcus Ericcson
  • Motor: Mercedes AMG
  • Chassis: Mercedes AMG
  • Sponsorship Level: Half Season

Welcome back CBL Corse

CBL Corse is taking a wait-and-see approach to the season. The team is holding back early and waiting to see how things shake out before taking the big plunge. It's a gamble, but an interesting play that could work out well. The team is definitely planning ahead to avoid the second-half sponsorship trap.

  • Fernando Alonso
  • Sebastian Vettel
  • Sergio Perez
  • Felipe Massa
  • Max Chilton
  • Chassis: Marussia Chassis
  • Engine: Mercedes AMG
  • Sponsorship Level: Full Season

Welcome back The Backmarker!

This league founder won 3 races in 2013, but the boom-or-bust style ended up being more bust than boom. The team is retooled for 2014 with Ferrari power. It's an interesting counter-programming that may end up looking brilliant.

  • Fernando Alsonso
  • Kimi Raikkonen
  • Nico Rosberg
  • Jules Bianchi
  • Marcus Ericsson
  • Chassis: Ferrari
  • Engine: Ferrari
  • Sponsorship Level: Half Season

Welcome back Scuderia Modificata

The two-time Champion Scuderia Modificata struggled through 2013 and ended up finishing 10th -- which was a significant improvement from the 18th place finish the season before. This season the team is casting aside it's red-tinted glasses, and going with a German style.

  • Lewis Hamilton
  • Nico Rosberg
  • Felipe Massa
  • Valterri Bottas
  • Sergio Perez
  • Chassis: Mercedes AMG
  • Engine: Mercedes AMG
  • Sponsorship Level: Half Season

Welcome back Team BRR

Two-time Champion Team BRR managed two podiums last season, but ended up outside the top 10 for the season. The team is rested and revived, and ready to compete in 2014. This team is also heavily invested in Mercedes AMG, and is hoping for a quick start out of the gates.

  • Fernando Alonso
  • Nico Rosberg
  • Jean-Eric Vergne
  • Jules Bianci
  • Marcus Ericsson
  • Chassis: Mercedes
  • Engine: Mercedes
  • Sponsorship Level: Half Season

Welcome back Black Flag Racing

Black Flag racing eally likes what they are seeing in the pre-season testing. "Going all in on Mercedes. Hopefully their early reliability will get them out front early enough they can hang on for the whole season!"

  • Lewis Hamilton
  • Nico Rosberg
  • Nico Hulkenberg
  • Felipe Massa
  • Valterri Bottas
  • Engine: Mercedes AMG
  • Chassis: Mercedes AMG
  • Sponsorship Level: Half Season

Welcome back Luncheon Libre

One of our favorite places to grab a bite on the grid, Luncheon Libre puts together a great spread. They also happen to run a race team. Last year they grabbed a podium finish. The team has higher expectations for 2014. Interestingly, they are the first revealed team to run a Force India component.

  • Kimi Raikkonen
  • Nico Rosberg
  • Sergio Perez
  • Adrian Sutil
  • Max Chilton
  • Engine: Mercedes AMG
  • Chassis: Force India
  • Sponsorship Level: Full Season

Welcome back Gamma Blast

Gamma Blast is another long-term competitor. Last season the team underperformed a bit, but still managed a mid-pack finish just outside the top 10. The team is going for a balanced approach in the early part of the season, softening up the competition before they set us up the bomb.

  • Kimi Raikkonen
  • Nico Rosberg
  • Jenson Button
  • Felipe Massa
  • Valterri Bottas
  • Chassis: Ferrari
  • Engine: Mercedes AMG
  • Sponsorship Level: Half Season

Welcome back Mikoji

Mikoji has been competing for several seasons now, and finished about midpack last season. This season they have their aim directly on first place, and have promised a highly competitive team. The driver team is led by the "beautiful" Hamilton. "Just when we were about to join the Red Bull bandwagon we learned about the preseason blow ups and decided we didn't need any help with blow ups because our team does that pretty well on our own."

  • Lewis Hamilton
  • Sebastian Vettel
  • Jenson Button
  • Max Chilton
  • Jules Bianchi
  • Chassis: Ferrari
  • Engine: Ferrari
  • Sponsorship Level: Full Season

Welcome back Horner's Hornettes

This long-term competitor returns in 2014 with an eye on two strong teams from last year. It's a (thus far) unique combination, and if it hits the Hornettes should take a large early-season lead.

  • Sebastian Vettel,
  • Jenson Button
  • Daniel Ricciardo
  • Romain Grosjean
  • Adrian Sutil
  • Chassis: Lotus
  • Engine: Red Bull
  • Sponsorship Level: Full Season

Welcome back Team Really Green

The 2009 champion had a rough season in 2013. The team started slow and never really gained momentum, and then ended up in sponsorship trouble for the second half. The team made the wise decision to stop developing the 2013 car, and instead focused early on the 2014 setup. This team is the first one to choose a Williams component -- an interesting move.

  • Kimi Raikkonen
  • Jenson Button
  • Nico Rosberg
  • Felipe Massa
  • Valterri Bottas
  • Engine: Mercedes AMG
  • Chassis: Williams
  • Sponsorship Level: Half Season

Welcome back Team Numero Uno

Team Numero Uno started strong in 2013, with a win and a podium. Unfortunately, second half sponsorship problems led to a finish that was well under the team's potential. In 2014, the team is betting heavily on the Mercedes AMG team, with chassis, motor and drivers from the team.

  • Lewis Hamilton
  • Nico Rosberg
  • Felipe Massa
  • Valtteri Bottas
  • Nico Hulkenberg
  • Chassis: Mercedes AMG
  • Engine: Mercedes AMG
  • Sponsorship Level: Half Season

Welcome back Doggone Racing

Doggone Racing managed an amazing task last season. Without a conscious attempt, the team managed to end up almost dead last in every race. This season, they have decided to return AND to pay attention to some of the pre-season testing. They enter 2014 powered by the early favorite, with a strong lineup of secondary drivers.

  • Lewis Hamilton
  • Felipe Massa
  • Nico Hulkenberg
  • Nico Rosberg
  • Adrian Sutil
  • Chassis: Mercedes AMG
  • Engine: Mercedes AMG
  • Sponsorship Level: Half Season

Welcome rookie Equipo Oso Rápida

This team (whose name is subject to change) is new to the world of Fantasy F1. However, do not mistake new with "inexperienced" -- the team principal is a long-term fan, and has taken preparation seriously. This team is not dissuaded by the "turn and burn" approach of the Red Bulls in practice; instead, the team is all-in with a full Red Bull strategy.

  • Sebstian Vettel
  • Fernando Alonso
  • Felipe Massa
  • Jules Bianchi
  • Esteban Guitierrez
  • Chassis: Red Bull
  • Engine: Red Bull
  • Sponsorship Level: Full Season

Welcome back Scuderia Globex

Another team returning from hiatus, Scuderia Globex has been a contender in the past. The team principal is heavily involved in both Formula 1 and endurance racing, and is known for pushing equipment past its expected capabilities.

  • Kimi Raikkonen
  • Nico Rosberg
  • Felipe Massa
  • Adrian Sutil
  • Valterri Bottas
  • Chassis: Mercedes
  • Engine: Ferrari
  • Sponsorship Level: Half Season

Welcome back Team Wilburghini

Team Wilburghini has been on haitus for a season or two while undergoing financial restructuring, but has emerged stronger and more motivated than ever. The team is betting heavily on the Ferrari team, with both the engine and chassis, and the (primary? secondary?) driver in the team. Forza Will!

  • Kimi Raikkonen
  • Sergio Perez
  • Esteban Gutierrez
  • Felipe Massa
  • Kamui Kobayashi
  • Chassis: Ferrari
  • Engine: Ferrari
  • Sponsorship Level: Full Season

We begin by welcoming Sierra Mist Sponsored Red Mist

A long name for a team with a short history, this team principal has been competing in the Ferrarichat league for a few seasons now. After winning in that league in 2013, the principal is "firing a warning shot into the Founders League." Everyone make him feel welcome . . .
