Race Results

Australia

The first race of 2012 is in the books. It appears that the balance of power may be shifting, but the road courses are always somewhat deceiving. The Australian course is treacherous from the first turn all the way to the very last lap.

Malaysia

The first rain race of the season is in the books, and as always a lack of grip is the great equalizer. Which team has built the best submarine? Who would the inevitable safety car benefit?

China

We finally get a look at the teams on a proper racetrack in the dry. It turns out that the 2012 cars are very competitive throughout the field, and the racing was very, very good. The battle through the ranks kept shifting in every lap, and every pit stop was vital. All in all, a great race and results that should make every true F1 fan happy.

Bahrain

Despite all the political issues surrounding the weekend, the race itself came off without incident. As qualifying indicated, tires and tire wear turned out to be critical to race pace this weekend. There was good racing throughout the grid, and the drivers were using every inch (and more) of the very wide track. It's not many places that one can see the F1 cars running 4 wide.

Spain

Everyone here at the IFGP hopes for a full recovery of everyone affected by the fire in the Williams pits after the race. That was a strange ending to an interesting race. This season is turning out to be truly unpredictable.

Monaco

The Great Race is always unforgiving of mistake. This particular running started with a bang, and ended with the pit lane keeping one eye on the sky and another on tire wear. In the end, it's not the fastest car but the one running at the end that always has the better chance of winning.

Canada

This has certainly turned into an interesting season, and the IFGP results are just as interesting. The value of the lower rank drivers has become paramount as the young drivers make their mark on F1. Should we expect strategy shifts in the leagues as we near the midpoint?

Europe

8 winners in 8 races? Perhaps. It's no secret that Valencia has a reputation of being a follow-the-leader go-cart track, but the street circuit provided surprisingly good racing today. The combination of DRS, Pirelli tires, and plain old brain fade meant that the final results weren't based solely on qualifying position.

British

One thing about the Pirelli tires this year, they certainly have increased the uncertainty on the track. It used to be that qualifying was pretty much the most competitive part of the race. That's no longer the case. Every lap counts, and nobody is safe until the checkers fly.

The race weekend suffered Biblical levels of rain, but race day was dry and fast, and the race was entertaining.

German

Rain, rain go away, come again on non-race day -- and that's exactly what happened.

After a qualifying session better suited to jet skis than F1 cars, race day itself was clear and dry. As usual, the race came down to those who could best handle their tires over the course of the competition. In the end, most of the favorites were at the pointy end of the field. Unfortunately, the marshals wouldn't let them all stay there after the race . . .

Hungary

My DVR missed the race, so no semi-intelligent commentary from me this time.

Launch Week 2012!

Launch Week begins in an exciting all-rookie league. This is the first time in over a decade that every team is starting on an even basis. So, in no particular order, let's begin:

We begin by welcoming Shaky GP FC

Shaky GP joins the Ferrarichat league as a rookie, but has been competing in what is now the Founders' League. This team starts by showing faith in the Mercedes AMG organization, and then adds several World Driving Champions to create (at least on paper) a competitive bundle. Shaky GP is pleased to welcome the Patron Bottle Fillers and Corkers Union (PUBFC) as sponsors for the 2012 season.

  • Engine: Mercedes AMG
  • Chassis: Mercedes AMG
  • Sebastian Vettel
  • Nico Rosberg
  • Kimi Raikkonen
  • Timo Glock
  • Pedro de la Rosa
  • Full Season Sponsorship

We also welcome Scuderia Cholula

Not much is yet known about Scuderia Cholula; we look forward to the team's pre-season press release. We do know that the team is going in a very different direction than Shaky GP. Scuderia Cholula is relying heavily on Ferrari power. Either the team has been sandbagging in practice, or the organization is betting on a mid-to-late season push to the top. No less than three WDC drivers will certainly help score points.

  • Engine: Ferrari
  • Chassis: Ferrari

  • Michael Schumacher
  • Fernando Alonso

Ambitious But Rubbish joins the fray

A name to amuse, or just one to lull the opponents into complacency? Ambitious But Rubbish goes in yet a third direction. The team is obviously playing for consistency rather than the hero-or-zero approach. Hopefully the team can score enough prize money to make that second-half sponsorship bill. A combination of the two favored pre-season engines and chassis should score some significant points.

The team is going with the boom-or-bust approach, placing pretty much all the team's eggs in the McLaren basket.
